The Battalion Search And Rescue is the first Arizona-based search and rescue organization focusing on lost and missing migrants. We are a self trained community-based group that reaches remote areas of the Arizona desert every month.
The Battalion name was chosen to honor the St Patrick’s Battalion. A group of immigrants serving in the US military in the 1800’s. After suffering horrible abuses at the hands of their superiors and witnessing atrocities committed by the US military they defected and joined the Mexican forces.
The Battalion Search And Rescue is an elite team comprised predominantly of Arizona volunteers. Our mission is to save lives and / or provide closure for family and loved ones. Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds.
We coordinate with Park Rangers, Military, Border Patrol , Reservation, BLM and Local Law Enforcement. 2020 was the deadliest year for migrants in the state of Arizona. Extreme conditions can range from freezing weather to 120° temperatures. Our searches average 10 miles per day over rugged terrain.
The Battalion Search And Rescue missions locate an average of two human remains every month. Remains can range from skeletal to a few hours old. The sooner they are found the better the chance for identification, repatriation and proper burial.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We welcome any inquiries and interest in this severely underreported humanitarian crisis. Our fundraising efforts consist of selling t-shirts and decals to pay for fuel and equipment.
We are the Battalion Search And Rescue. And we search for the lost but not forgotten.
